Week 12

It certainly has been a week of drama at the block! Bushfires were raging this week in and around Kilmore, lucky for us we were unaffected, but many in the Kilmore have lost livestock, and several poor souls lost their  homes.

The Kilmore-Lancefield Rd was road blocked by police for several days, so much to my surprise when I arrived Sunday morning finding a tradesman there cleaning the bricks, they look beautiful.  The other tradies were back in asap as well and they have certainly been busy since my last visit.

Doors, architraves, eaves (cement sheeting up) are now all complete. The hebel was also done yesterday, I quite like the look of it, but will like it even more once it is painted (Light Leather).

Cabinetry has started to be installed in the kitchen and laundry. I am still waiting for the correct kitchen doors and draws to be delivered.

The new alfresco door is sitting inside the garage waiting to be installed, I think it will look much nicer than the one currently there.

I did discover a major concern today though, the kitchen window is not in the right position, I double checked the house plans and kitchen window elevation and then checked it against the display home, and yep it is definitely wrong. This is going to be a major drama I just know it.

Update: PD contacted me bright and early Monday morning and kitchen window and alfresco door are both booked in to be done on Thursday, I also have a 7:30am meeting in Kilmore with my SS that day, I will be up and on the road very early!

Week 11

A quick check of the house this morning, found that the brickwork is now complete, plaster completed, doors and architrave delivered and also found my cabinetry delivered and sitting in my family room.

I am happy with the bricks (Category 2 Blackwood), although they are nothing like what I saw when I went out looking at homes that had been built, using them. They say every batch of bricks is different and this certainly holds true with these, now I am eager to see them clean.

My eldest daughter, came along with me today and just as well. She had a good look at the kitchen cabinetry and noticed it wasn't what I had ordered. I was supposed to have a *wrap* and this certainly wasn't that, a quick call to the BC Goddess, and I will be letting her fix this one up. Alfresco/Family door still needs to be replaced as well.

End of Week 10

Early Sunday morning I decided to quickly get up to the block and see for myself what's been done this week, I was super excited after receiving the sms photo's of brickwork starting.

To my surprise I found half the house had been bricked and all the internal plasterboard was up! The house is definitely starting to take shape now.

Week 10

I went up to the block this morning with my youngest daughter, as she hadn't seen it at all. I was disappointed that no bricks had been laid as yet, and plaster is still sitting in the family room untouched. On a bright note though all the electrical wiring has been done, air conditioner has also been installed. The door on the family/alfresco area still needs to be replaced, will probably be a little while yet before that's done. We are a day short this week as today was the Australia Day public holiday, and we have a week of 40c+ days ahead of us again. I don't expect anyone to work in such heat, but I can't help but feel disappointed ! My BC gave me a April date as handover, considering it is February at the end of the week, time will soon pass and we will be packing and moving again.

Update:

I received a sms from my BC this morning with a couple of photo's, they have started to brick! The brick's look a little pink in these photo's but they are quite dark, now I can't wait to go up and see how they look for myself.

Week 8

Well I hadn't been at the block for a couple of weeks, we have been on the tail end of the traditional Christmas break and for the past week have experienced 40c+ days almost every day.

I really wasn't expecting there to be any progress at all on our build. But to my surprise I found that the plumbing had been done, the air conditioning and heating had been roughed in, bricks and sand delivered, plaster and cornice sitting in my family area. Front door was fitted as well, I was really pleased.

Brickwork is due to start on Monday, still waiting for my Alfresco/Family room door to be replaced, hope this is done really soon so it doesn't affect the brickies.
